  • The first option, never, completely stops Instagram from reading from your camera roll and writing anything new to it. This means that Instagram won’t be able to save anything on your phone anymore. However, it will also prevent it from reading anything as well, meaning you won’t be able to post anything from your camera roll, let’s say you have taken a picture or recorded a video yourself.
  • The second option, add photos only, is exactly what you don’t want. It doesn’t allow the app the read anything, meaning you can’t post anything from your gallery; but the app is still able to save pictures to your camera roll, which is exactly the problem.
  • The third option, read and write, is the default. It will reverse things back to normal.

A Fix to the “Access Denied” Problem

As it might happen, your Instagram might have been saving all your pictures and videos before you decided you don’t it to save anything anymore. Now, you want it to save everything again, but it just doesn’t work and probably shows some weird error as well. If It’s a problem related to accesses, then this might help you out. Please remember that this fix is meant for Android users, and the iOS variant will probably require different steps. Even among Android users, some icon or their placement may be different depending on which version you are using.

Step 1:

Open your phone’s settings.

Step 2:

In your setting, find “Apps”, and click on it. If you can’t find it, you can search for it in your search bar located on top.

Step 3:

Now, press “Apps” again. Depending on your Android, this step may or may not exist or may be slightly different. If this page doesn’t exist for you, simply go to the next step.

Step 4:

Now, find Instagram among your apps. You can either search manually or search in the search bar at the top of your list. Once you find it, tap on it.

Step 5:

Now you should see a page with information about Instagram. Among them, look for an item called “Permissions”. Click on it.

Step 6:

Now, you should be able to see which permissions your Instagram has been granted by you. As you can see, mine already has access to “Storage”. If your Android doesn’t show it like mine, tap on “Storage”, and if access has not been granted, make sure Instagram has access.

If you have an access problem with something else with your Instagram, this is also where you can grant other permissions, or revoke them if needed. Also, if you decided to have Instagram on a new phone and denied access the first time it asks for one by mistake, you can come here to fix it.
