Steps for Changing Group Name on WhatsApp
Changing a group name in WhatsApp is a simple and easy-to-follow process. Follow these simple steps to change a group name to any name of your choosing.
Step 1:
Find and open WhatsApp on your phone. Imagine a white phone handle with an almost circle around it on a green background. That’s what the icon looks like.
Step 2:
Open the group you want its name changed. Once opened, look for the three dots on the upper right corner of your screen. Tap on it.
Step 3:
Now, you should see the group profile page in front of you. Again, look for the three dots in the upper right corner of your screen and tap on them.

Choose “Change subject”. Depending on your access to the group, you may see more options here.
Step 5:
Now type the new name you have in mind, you can even stickers in the name. Once you are done typing, tap on “OK” at the bottom of the screen.
That’s everything you need to know to change your group’s name. However, sometimes it happens with WhatsApp doesn’t allow you to change the group name. Sometimes, you might simply not have access (and those with the access aren’t around), and sometimes, it might be something else. So, it might be a good idea to create a new group. How to Create a Group in WhatsApp – iPhone
I usually explain how things are done on Android; but this time, I’ve decided to explain how they are done on iPhone first this time.
Step 1:
Find and open WhatsApp on your device. You can download the latest version from the App Store if you need to update it.
Step 2:
From your icons on the lower right of your screen, find and tap on “Chats”.
Step 3:
On the right side of your screen, below the search bar, find “New Group” and tap on it.
Step 4:
Now, select who wants to be in this group. Remember, you can add up to 256 members this way, and everyone you add will have their profile pictures shown at the top of your screen.
Step 5:
Once you are done adding people, tap on “Next” in the upper right corner of your screen. Also, you need at least add one member to create a group.
Step 6:
Now enter the group name you have in mind in the “Group Subject” field. You can also select a profile picture for your group. - The maximum length for a group name is 25 characters
- You can upload the group picture by tapping on the camera icon next to the group subject

How to Create a Group in WhatsApp – Android
Now, let’s focus on how things are done on Android. Although things are quite similar, the visual process might be slightly different.
Step 1:
Find WhatsApp on your phone and open it. If your WhatsApp isn’t up-to-date, you can update it by visiting WhatsApp’s page on Play Store.
Step 2:
In the upper left side of your screen, look for “Chats”. Tap on it to switch to chats.
Step 3:
Now, find the three dots on the upper right corner of your screen and tap on them.
Step 4:
Once you tap on the three dots, a drop-down menu should open for you. Tap on the option “New Group”.
Step 5:
Now add members to the group. Remember, you must at least select one user to be added you won’t be able to form the group. Everyone you add will have their profile picture shown at the top of the screen.
Step 6:
Once you have chosen everyone, go to the next section. Now it’s time to choose a name for your group. Tap on the field with “Type group subject here…” and type the name to be shown as your group’s name. You can use stickers in the group name if you wish. Additionally, you can add a profile picture by clicking on the camera icon shown on the left side of the mentioned field. You can either choose a picture from your gallery or take a picture now and set it as your WhatsApp group’s profile picture.
Step 7:
Once you are done setting a name and picture for your group and making all the changes you want in the setting below them, tap on the checkmark in the lower right corner of your screen.
